my job: the motion picture

I love being a freelance journalist. But sometimes you have to laugh at this business. In the middle of writing an easy-sounding story that turned out to be not such a piece of cake, I decided to procrastinate by writing my own movie on Xtranormal. Here it is, an animated look at the life of a freelance writer. Do I sound bitter? I hope not. Reviews welcome. (For the record, the editor of the easy-sounding story is one of the good guys. It was some of the publicists who were making my life miserable.)

Cinema verite? Or is it a documentary? Hmmm. "The Drapes of Wrath"?

Loved it - although you could have substituted a number of national magazines that would have done the same.

This pretty much sums up my career in a nutshell. It is hilarious. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to swallow some arsenic...

I am not a writer, but thought this was very funny. Unfortunately you could substitute many of today's working environments to this situation - more work, less pay.

I was laughing so hard, especially about the part where she says, no you have to track them down, only 10,000 phone calls.

Thank you! This sums up why I'm going back to grad school to get a degree where I can make a living and write for fun because writing for a living is killing my soul. Lord.

Watching this was like staring in a mirror. A horrible, self-esteem-crushing cracked mirror. I miss old media.

Why the hell are you spending your time making videos? You owe me a story on women who wear $2 million bras!

My shrieks of hysteria brought the kids running. I couldn't explain it to them. But they did laugh at the line, "Twenty years ago, I was in Pre-school..."
Maybe they were laughing at the color of my face by that point.
This is brilliant.
